Yeovil Probus visits the Fleet Air Arm Museum

 

On Wednesday 29th March Yeovil Probus Club members visited the excellent Fleet Air Arm Museum. Two of our members, David Reid and Ian Winkle are both volunteers so we were assured of a very informative visit. They had also
arranged for another volunteer to talk about his time as the maintenance engineer of HMS Antrim’s Wessex helicopter, affectionately named Humphrey. Humphrey’s crew had been responsible for rescuing the Royal Marines and crew of two other crashed Wessex in appalling weather on a glacier in South Georgia. Shortly after that she had successfully disabled an Argentinian submarine, before participating in the main landings on the Falklands.   This was an amazing story highlighting the heroism of all those involved in this campaign.
